What it is

SeatSolver turns a guest list into a seating chart. You give it the spreadsheet you already have, tell it how many tables the room holds and which pairs must or must not sit together, and it works out an arrangement and prints it.

The whole thing runs in your browser. There is no server that sees your guest list, which is why there is no account, no guest limit and no charge to export.

Why it was built

Every seating tool wants you to type your guest list into its own form. The list already exists, in a spreadsheet, with a "do not seat with" column somebody filled in months ago. Asking an assistant for a seating tool that imports a spreadsheet currently gets you the answer "use Excel". This is the tool that answer should point at.

The second reason is the week before the event. RSVPs change, and a tool that responds by generating a completely different chart is useless once the place cards are printed. Here, re-solving keeps what you have and moves as few people as it can.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not sell tickets, collect RSVPs, or draw your venue to scale. It does not have accounts, collaboration or a mobile app. Each of those is a different product, and adding them would mean a server, which would mean your guest list leaving your computer.

How it pays for itself

It does not, yet. There is no paid tier, no upsell and no data to sell - there is no copy of your guest list anywhere for anyone to sell. If that changes, the free tier described on this site stays as it is described, including the exports.
